Man City and Manchester United fans warned of Metrolink works on derby day

Manchester City and Manchester United fans have been warned of cancellations to Metrolink tram services this weekend ahead of the derby.

City will host United this Sunday with both sides looking for a crucial three points. The Blues currently sit top of the Premier League while Ralf Rangnick's side are fourth.

A capacity crowd is expected at the Etihad Stadium with many supporters using the tram system to get to and from the ground. However, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has warned fans ahead of the match that delays can be expected due to engineering works.

In advice issued on their website, TfGM said: "Metrolink engineering works will take place at Deansgate-Castlefield. There will be a replacement bus service operating to help continue your journey.

"TransPennine Express customers are being asked to plan carefully as industrial action will take place on the Sunday. Based off previous weekend matches at the Etihad, Alan Turing Way, Pottery Lane, Ashton Old Road and Mancunian Way all had an additional 12 minutes journey time 90 minutes prior to kick off.

"Please consider leaving the car at home or re-routing your journey to avoid the congested areas."

Essential engineering works at Deansgate-Castlefield mean that no trams will be running through the stop. Four replacement bus services will operate instead on the following routes:

After the game, trams will not serve Holt Town and Velopark until crowds have cleared from the Etihad Campus stop.
