Man City add youngster to full Champions League squad for knockout stages ahead of Sporting tie

Manchester City have added Brazilian youngster Kayky to their official Champions League squad for the knockout stages.

Clubs have had to submit their revised squad for the second part of the competition, with City winning their group to set up a last-16 clash with Sporting. They travel to Lisbon next week for the first leg, before welcoming them back to the Etihad on March 9.

City had to make at least one change with Ferran Torres departing for Barcelona, who dropped into the Europa League after failing to get out of their group. In his place, the Blues have promoted Brazilian Kayky, who has impressed for the under-23s since joining the club in the summer and made his debut in the FA Cup win at Swindon last month.

Kayky has trained regularly with the first team, and earned praise from Pep Guardiola and teammates including Fernandinho. However, his inclusion is likely for administrative purposes to ensure he is available if needed, rather than to indicate an increased role in the knockout stages.

Clubc can name up to 25 players with no more than 17 that do not count as 'locally trained players' in their main 'List A' squad, while youngsters under the age of 21 who have been available to play for the club for an uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday can be named on a separate 'B List'.

Eligible players for that 'B List' can be added up until the night before each match, but Kayky and academy teammate Romeo Lavia haven't been with the club for two years so must be included as main list players if City want to use them.
