Man charged with rape and false imprisonment after alleged attack on woman

A man has been charged with rape and false imprisonment after a woman was allegedly attacked in Manchester.

Police were called at around 2.30am on Saturday (October 1) to a report that a woman had been raped on Ashton New Road. Farooq Rana, of Jayton Avenue, Manchester, has since been charged in connection with the incident.

The 37-year-old has been charged with rape and false imprisonment, police said. He has been remanded into custody.

He will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on November 7. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Farooq Rana (24 May 1985) of Jayton Avenue, Manchester was yesterday (3 October 2022) charged with rape and false imprisonment.

"At around 2:30am on Saturday 1 October 2022, police received a report that a female had been raped on 1 October 2022, on Ashton New Road in Manchester. Rana has since been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Manchester Crown Court on 7 November 2022."
