Man charged with drink driving after child hit by car

A man has been charged with drink driving after a child was hit by a car in Wythenshawe.

Police were called to Simonsway at around 6.30pm on Friday (2 September) to reports of a crash between two cars which resulted in a child being struck.

The girl was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and has since been charged and bailed.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "On Friday 2 September at around 6:30pm we were called to a road traffic collision on Simonsway, Wythenshawe.

"This was involving two cars that collided with each other before hitting a female pedestrian thought to be a child. Emergency services responded with injuries reported at hospital not to be life threatening.

"An adult male was arrested at the scene for drink driving and has since been charged and bailed."
