Man arrested as cannabis farm uncovered in loft after house goes up in flames

A man was arrested after a cannabis farm was uncovered following a house fire in Denton.

The fire broke out at the home on Wordsworth Road just before midnight on Saturday (April 27). Firefighters spent five and a half hours tackling the huge blaze through the early hours of the morning before police and forensics scoured the scene.

In an update issued today (April 29), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said a cannabis farm was uncovered in the loft of the property. This is where the blaze started, the spokesperson added.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the production of a cannabis plant and abstracting electricity, police added. He has since been released on bail.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Officers attended a fire at a property on Wordsworth Road in Denton at around 12.03am yesterday morning (Sunday 28 April 2024). One male was evacuated from the property and was the only person in the property at the time.
