Man accused of attempting to murder nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital appears in court
A man accused of trying to murder a nurse at the Royal Oldham Hospital has appeared in court.
Romon Haque, 37, is accused of attempting to murder Achamma Cherian on January 11. He is also accused of having an article with a bladed or point, namely a pair of scissors.
Mr Haque, of Yasmin Gardens, Oldham, appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court this morning (Feb 14) for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He was not asked to enter a plea.
The case was adjourned for a further pre-trial hearing in April, and a trial was scheduled for July. Bearded and wearing a grey jumper, Mr Haque appeared by video link from HMP Manchester.
He spoke only to confirm that he could hear the proceedings, and to confirm his name and date of birth. Judge Maurice Greene adjourned the case and remanded Mr Haque in custody.
Police were called to the hospital at about 11.30pm on Saturday, January 11.
