Man accused of attacking rapist Reynhard Sinaga in prison appears in court as provisional trial date set

A man accused of attacking rapist Reynhard Sinaga in prison has appeared in court. Jack McRae, 32, is charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to Sinaga at HMP Wakefield on July 4, 2023.

He is also charged with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm; one of attempting to cause actual bodily harm; and one of assaulting a prison officer, all of which are said to have happened at HMP Wakefield between May and August 2023.

Sinaga, 41, was jailed in January 2020 for carrying out 159 sex offences, including a string of rapes. He is currently serving a minimum of 40 years behind bars.

Appearing at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday (January 16) via video-link from HMP Frankland, in Durham, Mr McRae did not enter a plea to the offence.

Prosecuting, Robert Galley, asked for the case to be adjourned. A provisional trial date was set for June 16 this year.

Mr McRae will next appear on February 4. He was remanded into custody until the next hearing.
