Mamelodi Sundowns announce former Chelsea scout as new sporting director

DStv Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the appointment of former Chelsea scout Flemming Berg as the club's new sporting director.

The 49-year-old, who hails from Denmark, has had a lot to do with developing talent for the Danish national teams since 2015.

He has received wide acclaim for his exploits with the Danish FA, and has been heavily involved in establishing the Danish Football Union's new children's football strategy.

Prior to his gig with the Danish FA, Berg spent seven years (2005 to 2012) as Chelsea's chief international scout.

In February, Sport24 revealed that Berg would leave his post as talent development manager of the Danish Football Union to make the big move to Tshwane, South Africa.

"DBU's talent development manager, Flemming Berg, who has been in charge of DBU's talent development since 2015, will leave on April 1 at DBU as he has decided to say yes to an international position as sporting director," a DBU statement read then. 

Berg replaces Jose Roman Alexanko, who joined the Masandawana in September 2019 but his departure from the club remains unknown at this point.
