Major update emerges concerning Derby preferred bidder and potential points deduction
Derby County administrators Quantuma are set to name Chris Kirchner as their preferred bidder and the deal may see them deducted a further 15 points this season rather than in 2022/23, according to a report from The Sun.
Kirchner had been the frontrunner to become the next Rams owner late last year before pulling out in December but the plans for the City Council to buy Pride Park and lease it to the new owner have reportedly got him back interested.
That’s according to a report from The Sun that claims that a new offer has been tabled by the American businessman, who will look to rush through a takeover deal.
The report claims that Kirchner is set to be named the club’s preferred bidder and should pass the EFL’s Owners’ & Directors’ Test without issue.
It is understood that he is desperate to keep Wayne Rooney at the helm moving forward while it is said the deal he is proposing may see the Rams deducted 15 more points this season but start next term in League One without a penalty.
The Verdict
Finally, it looks as though we could be set to see some concrete progress toward a takeover.
Kirchner has been linked with a takeover at Preston North End over the past month but has shifted his focus back to Derby, his first choice, after the City Council’s plan for Pride Park has made the deal more appealing to him.
He may have to earn the trust of Rams supporters again after pulling out in December but things were getting desperate for the club so this looks like good news – particularly if he can rush the takeover through quickly.
While a further 15-point deduction would guarantee relegation to League One, that may not be the end of the world it if they can avoid a deduction next season.
