Major changes to bin collections ‘causing concern’ for some Bolton residents

Major changes to the bin collection service in Bolton begin today with some pick ups cut from fortnightly to every four weeks. From Monday, July 15 households across the borough will have a new bin collection day.

Paper and cardboard beige bin collections will also change from every two weeks to every four weeks from this week. Bolton Council has revised routes around the borough with the intention of making the service more reliable.

Nine new bin trucks will be in use from today with a further 10 vehicles arriving in the coming weeks. The new vehicles will replace outdated and increasingly unreliable vehicles as part of an ongoing fleet replacement project. Fitted with more energy efficient engines, the new vehicles will use less fuel per mile travelled and produce less CO2 emissions.

The bin lifters on the back of the wagons use a new technology that enables further energy efficiency. Bolton Council said that to ensure residents have clear information about the changes, households have been issued with a new bin calendar which lists all collections up to December 2024 and includes reminders on what to put in each bin.
