Maidstone United manager Craig Fagan on his side's Kent derby against Ebbsfleet United as National League South’s top two meet at the Gallagher Stadium

Craig Fagan wants Maidstone to take the game to Ebbsfleet in tonight’s top-of-the-table Kent derby at the Gallagher Stadium.

It’s first versus second in National League South as Fagan’s leaders face a Fleet side who sit just a point behind.

Fleet have shot up the table since their first six games of the season were postponed due to an unpaid tax bill, and on Saturday they beat Maidenhead 4-0 at Stonebridge Road.

Josh Wright’s side were heading for top spot until Frankie Hvid’s late header in a 1-1 draw at Torquay kept Maidstone at the summit, a position they’ve occupied since September 5.

“I’m not trying to build it up; I’m not trying to dampen it down,” said Stones boss Fagan. “The lads are looking forward to the game, like I am.

“Ebbsfleet have got a vast squad and players there on decent money, so it’s a good test for our players. They’re up there because they’ve earned it and they’re on form.

“It’s going to be a good game. No matter the result, I’m just keen to stress to our supporters to get behind our lads, which I know they will do.

“And whichever way the result goes, nothing’s won or lost in terms of the season.

“It’s just another game and another chance for us to get three points, and it’ll be the same for them.

“It’s first versus second, so they’ll be as wary of us as we are of them but we’re at home and we’re looking to take the game to them.

“You’ve seen this season, I don’t think we’ve sat in. We’ve not been a team that have said, come and try and break us down.

“We’ve gone for games. My mantra is always to try and win the game. That’s just the way I am. I’m a positive person, the same as Rob (Tuvey, assistant manager) is.”
