Maidstone's Colin Jelf ready to take on strong field as UIM F2 Powerboat Racing World Championship begins in Poland

Colin Jelf is in Poland this weekend for the opening round of the UIM F2 Powerboat Racing World Championship.

Jelf, from Maidstone, made history in 2008 when he became the first man to win three consecutive F2 world titles.

He’s eyeing more success as the leading racers battle it out in Krakow at speeds of almost 120mph.

Jelf said: “There’s a really strong fleet of racers making the journey to Poland and some new racers coming into the class so it’s a bit of the unknown this season.

“It will be great to have so many boats back on the water and the team can’t wait to get the season started.

“It will be hard work but the grand prix is there for taking and with it the championship lead.”

Meanwhile, Ben Jelf is in British Championship second-round action at Oulton Broad.

The 22-year-old won the opening round in Lancashire in May and is looking to maintain his lead in the F2 Championship.

Jelf, who has a new hull, said: “There will be more competition at this round as well, with a few of the local racers hopefully joining the fleet will which will make the racing interesting and add an element of the unknown.”
