Maguire in top-30 as Chevron heads for playoff drama

Leona Maguire earned a top-30 finish in the Chevron Championship after a final round 73 saw her finish at even par overall as the first major of the year went to the wire in Texas.

Overnight leader Angel Yin recovered from bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes to fire a clutch birdie on 18 to force a playoff with Lilia Vu.

Vu, who only claimed her first LPGA Tour win in Thailand in February, had earlier hit a superb round of 68 which included two closing birdies to post a clubhouse lead of 10-under par.

One hole shy of the playoff is World No. 2 Nelly Korda, whose final round of 71 saw her post a nine-under par score for the week.

FINAL LEADERBOARD

Maguire appeared to fall out of contention with an opening 76, firing a creditable 69 to creep inside the cut on Friday. A round of 70 on Saturday took her to one-under par for the tournament, leaving her nine adrift of the leaders.

In her final round, Maguire posted 35 on her outward nine after a dropped stroke on the 4th was followed by birdies on 5 and 8. She had a harder time on the back nine with bogeys on the 11th and the tricky 16th saw her wind up on even par, tied-23rd for the week.
