Magical Mmodi scores a brace as Kaizer Chiefs belatedly get their Premiership season going

Earlier this week, Molefe Ntseki preached patience following Kaizer Chiefs' poor start to the new DStv Premiership season and found some justification for it as his charges belatedly got their campaign going with a 3-0 victory over AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

The intent that statement showcased spilled over to the field as the AmaKhosi made a superb start through Pule Mmodi, who was purposeful in hunting down a loose ball in a dangerous position and volleyed home for his first goal at his new club.

Three minutes in, it was the perfect start for the struggling Sowetan giants.

That infusion of confidence saw the hosts place consistently suffocating pressure on Usuthu, but they were unable to capitalise on various opportunities, eventually leading to their opponents finding a foothold in the game.

So efficiently did AmaZulu stave off Chiefs' initiative that they themselves created several decent chances, the best one falling to Ethan Brooks, who sliced a loose ball wide of goal.

Tshepang Moremi also exploited some suspect defending though he undid much of his good work by merey forcing a low save from Chiefs shot-stopper Brandon Petersen.

A consistently prone presence, Moremi was at it again when spurned a volley over the crossbar after chasing a high-ball.

Yet it would prove to be Chiefs who had the more incisiveness in front of goal.

They extended their lead when Tebogo Potsane delivered a delightful backheel for an attentive Mmodi to slot home, before Edson Castillo headed in from the far post.
