Madeley: Wolves may "consider" selling "outstanding" £50k-p/w titan, it's a big risk - opinion

Wolverhampton Wanderers have only made three signings so far this summer, however, with more interest surrounding their players, it could force the club to make another move before the transfer window closes next week.

According to The Athletic’s Wolves reporter Steve Madeley, the club “would consider” selling Willy Boly but will need to find a replacement before they can allow him to go.

Madeley tweeted:

“As per @JPercyTelegraph, Wolves have rejected a Nottingham Forest bid of around £1m for Willy Boly.

“Get the impression they would consider selling but not at that price nor without having a replacement lined up.”

Selling Boly could be a big risk for Wolves if they do allow the centre-back to leave this summer without signing a suitable replacement, especially after letting Conor Coady go on loan to Everton.

If the club did sell their centre half they would be left with Nathan Collins, Max Kilman, Yerson Mosquera and Toti in their squad, leaving them with very few experienced and senior heads. That said, they wouldn’t just need to replace Boly’s position but his experience in the team.

The £50k-per-week titan, who was once dubbed “outstanding” by Joleon Lescott on BT Sport, has 147 appearances for the Midlands club, and despite his injury issues has been a reliable and consistent defensive presence for Wolves.

Although making only ten Premier League appearances last season, Boly had a 91% pass completion rate in his own half, demonstrating immense composure with the ball at his feet. He was also a brute in defensive situations, making 1.4 interceptions, 2.5 tackles and 3.5 clearances per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels combined (56%).

Bruno Lage has now opted for a back four this season instead of
