"Made it clear...": Keith Downie drops Newcastle transfer claim on "exceptional" £90m-rated star

Newcastle signing Harry Kane this summer is a “non-starter”, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The £90m-rated striker’s future in North London remains in major doubt, but Downie doesn’t believe that the England captain moving to the Toon Army is a possibility.

While Kane, recently described as “exceptional” by Pep Guardiola, and Tottenham’s campaigns are going from strength to strength on a weekly basis, it still remains unclear whether the 28-year-old will remain at his boyhood club in 2022-2023.

Kane, who’s scored an incredible 178 goals in the Premier League, has emerged as a target for Manchester United this summer, although Newcastle’s serious financial backing has seen St James’ Park touted as a potential destination for the frontman.

He’s set to decide over his future at the end of the season, with Antonio Conte’s transfer business and Spurs playing in the Champions League are two major factors that could affect his decision.

But while The Athletic believe that United are expected to attempt to try and prise Kane away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Downie has all-but ruled out Newcastle being able to do the same.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Absolute non-starter, I can’t see how it can happen, I just can’t see it.

“Harry Kane has made it clear that he wants to win trophies and Newcastle are not going to be next season in a place to win trophies.”
