M6 crash: Police, paramedics and firefighters attend scene

Emergency services descended on the M6 following a crash near Greater Manchester. Police, paramedics and firefighters were all at the scene on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 19 at Knutsford and 18 at Middlewich.

One lane of traffic was closed, alongside the exit slip road to the Moto Knutsford services. National Highways said there was slow traffic approaching the area.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on X: "NEW INCIDENT #M6 south between J19 (#A556) and J18 (#Middlewich #A54) #Cheshire SLIP CLOSED Exit to @motoway (@bp_UK) services at #Knutsford closed due to a collision.

"1 lane (of 3) also closed past scene. @CheshireRCU @CheshireFire @NWAmbulance on scene. Slow traffic."

The slip road and one lane of traffic remain closed, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.

The latest update from Inrix says:

"M6 Southbound slip road into the services closed one lane closed, heavy traffic due to accident at A5033 Northwich Road (Knutsford Services)."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it has now left the scene.
