Luke Shaw makes brutally honest admission about Manchester United's season

Defender Luke Shaw has admitted that Manchester United have not been "good enough" to consider competing for the Premier League title this season.

With 15 matches still to play this term, United currently find themselves 21 points adrift of cross-city rivals Manchester City at the top of the table, highlighting the gulf in class between where the club currently finds itself and where it wants to be.

United, currently sixth in the Premier League table, are locked in a four-way battle for the final Champions League berth, meaning they face the devastating possibility of missing out on competing in Europe's premier club competition next season.

The Reds, of course, are hoping to make significant progress next season once they install their next permanent manager, but Shaw, very honestly, has admitted that United have not been good enough this season, insisting their form has not been worthy of competing higher up the table.

"The season so far, in general, is, of course, not good enough," Shaw told talkSPORT. "I think where we want to be and where we are now is two completely different places.

"Obviously we are very devastated about getting knocked out of the FA Cup; it was a competition that we felt we could win.

"We are not in the position in the league that we want to be and, of course, we don't deserve to be with the results that we have had and how things are going with the ups and downs. It is not good enough for a team that wants to win the title.

"If you look at the top teams and their consistency, they are at a high level of that and are winning matches on a consistent basis.

"We haven't been doing that. But it is something that we have looked at and it is something we need to improve on."
