Luke Littler makes six-word promise ahead of World Darts Championship final vs Michael van Gerwen

Luke Littler is on the brink of making history as he eyes the title of youngest-ever world champion in darts.

The prodigious talent secured his spot in a second consecutive World Championship final at Alexandra Palace after defeating Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals, setting up an electrifying showdown with Michael van Gerwen. Despite van Gerwen's warning that he's ready to shatter the young star's dreams, Friday night's final is shaping up to be a must-see event as they vie for the prestigious Sid Waddell Trophy - and Littler has promised he is 'going to enjoy it'.

Littler, who narrowly missed out on the trophy last year to Luke Humphries, said: "Everyone else is looking forward to it more than I am, but if I win seven sets I will be happy. Michael has been in numerous finals, this is my second, I know where I went wrong last year and I am sure I will fix it."

The prospect of victory is not lost on Littler, who finished runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and emerged as the most Googled UK sportsperson of 2024. "It will mean everything, if I win seven sets I’ll be over the moon. I can’t wait to get on stage," Littler added.

With a relaxed approach to the upcoming challenge, Littler made a vow to simply enjoy himself. "I can tell you now, I have got no pressure, I am going to enjoy it, if I can get off to a quick start I’ll be happy," the 17-year-old concluded.
