Luis Rocha challenges Edgar Skrivers for Karate Combat lightweight world title on May 28

Karate Combat fans have something else to look forward to: Luis Rocha will challenge Edgar Skrivers for the lightweight world title on May 28.

The highly-anticipated rematch, which will headline Karate Combat Season 4: Event 2, has been in the works for the last three months.

Defending champion Skrivers will enter the bout riding a three-fight winning streak, which includes impressive wins over Bruno de Assis and Myrza-Bek Tebuev.

Rocha, meanwhile, secured his second crack at lightweight gold with a savage body kick win TKO last season over Russian veteran Nikita Yanchuk.

The Brazilian challenged for 149lb gold in November 2019 with bitter rival Skrivers with the vacant belt up for grabs.

But the former title challenger came up short on that occasion, suffering a third-round TKO defeat to ‘The Bearslayer’.

Adam Kovacs, the League President of Karate Combat, said: “There’s a lot of history here: Skrivers and Rocha had the first-ever Karate Combat title fight and now they are ready to run it back.

“A lot has happened since that first fight.

“Skrivers has looked dominant but Rocha never stopped being a contender and both of them had huge wins last season – now we’re going to see how they’ve evolved.”

Skrivers added: “Karate Combat decided to give him another shot and that’s fine.

“A lot has changed since then, including his style and my style.

“We’ve both evolved so of course it’s going to be a different fight, but I expect it to be a similar ending – I’m going to get in The Pit, smash him and earn a lot of cash in the process.”

Rocha, 32, has been training with Bellator MMA champions Patricio and Patricky Freire – better known as the Pitbull Brothers to some – at their localgym in his native country of Brazil.
