'Loudest thunder I’ve ever heard' as storm and heavy rain hits Wales - live updates

People have described hearing the loudest thunder they've ever heard as a storm and heavy rain hits parts of Wales. It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Monday night through to the early hours of Tuesday morning.

One resident described hearing "some of the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard in Canton", while another Cardiff resident said: "I have just had a horrific headache so was lying on my bed with pillows over my eyes so had no idea there was lightning and that first thunder scared the life out of me."

One Twitter user added: "There is MASSIVE thunder and lightning happening in Cardiff right now. Tempted to stick a metal rod out my window for some free electricity."

The Met Office warning states that the thunderstorms are likely to develop across parts of southwest England and Wales during Monday afternoon and "become more organised" through the evening.

The yellow warning adds: "Lines of thunderstorms are expected to then move north during the early hours of Tuesday and gradually weaken as they clear into northern England before dawn.

"Whilst some places will see little or no rainfall, a few locations may see torrential rain with 20-30 mm falling in one hour and 50-80 mm in 3 hours. Additional hazards accompanying stronger thunderstorms include frequent lightning, hail and gusty winds, particularly during the evening period."
