Long-delayed £8m social housing scheme finally completed after builders went bust

Work has been completed on a ‘much needed’ social housing development in Burnage that will provide accommodation and on-site care for older and vulnerable adults.

The new ‘With Care’ Dahlia House development from Southway Housing on Burnage Lane has faced a number of delays and challenges over the duration of construction on the project, which was first given the go-ahead in March 2019.

The project, which consists of 56 Age Friendly apartments for social rent for people over 55, was initially envisaged to be completed in late 2020.

In December 2019, construction company Bardsley Construction Ltd went into administration resulting in all building work to be temporarily halted.

The pandemic in 2020 caused further delays to the completion of Dahlia House.

As a result of Bardsley’s administration, Cheadle-based company Rowlinson Constructions Ltd took over work to complete development which has now been formally handed over.

Southway Housing have now announced that the first tenants of Dahlia House are due to move in later this month.
