Lobi Stars beat Kwara United away as Remo retain top spot

NPFL

Lobi Stars, yesterday, showed that they are determined to match their ambition of winning the 2023/24 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) with the hard work required for the purpose when they went to Ilorin to beat Kwara United 2-0.

The Dominic Iorfa boys, who were given a befitting send forth ahead of the game by Benue State’s Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, on Friday, forced Kwara United’s Godwin Osagbemi to score a 21st minute own-goal before Stanley Ogamgbor settled the game with a 46th minute strike.

The away win kept Lobi Stars second on the NPFL table behind leaders, Remo Stars, who beat Sunshine Stars 2-0. Remo Stars and Sunshine were heading to a goalless draw in Ikenne when Aniekeme Okon scored two quick goals in the 91st and 101st minutes to hand the leaders a 2-0 win and the three points.

Third-placed Doma United continued their fearless performance in the elite league with a dominant 2-0 defeat of Katsina United on Saturday. Remo and Lobi Stars have 32 points apiece, but the Ikenne boys are top of the table on superior goals aggregate. Doma United are third on 31 points.

In other games yesterday, Enyimba defeated Sporting Lagos 2-0, Bendel Insurance beat Enugu Rangers by the same margin, while Akwa United defeated Abia Warriors 3-1.

Also, Niger Tornadoes beat Heartland 3-2, 3SC defeated Bayelsa United 1-0, Kano Pillars defeated Plateau United 2-1, just as Gombe United were held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United.
