Liverpool will not make the Premier League top four, claims William Gallas

Liverpool will not finish in the Premier League top four this season and miss out on Champions League football, William Gallas has boldly predicted.

Jurgen Klopp’s side looked on course to achieve an unprecedented quadruple last term but settled for a domestic cup double after missing out on the Premier League title by one point and finishing as runners-up in the Champions League.

Liverpool have finished in the top four for the last six seasons in a row, having won the 2019-20 title in what was their first top-flight trophy in 30 years.

They finished second in 2018-19 and 2021-22 – just one point behind Manchester City on both occasions – third in 2020-21 and fourth in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Klopp’s side were held by promoted side Fulham in their opening Premier League fixture with former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Gallas, who won two Premier League titles with the Blues, tipping the Merseyside club to miss out on the top four this term.

‘As an ex-London player, I have to say Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham to win the Premier League,’ Gallas told Genting Casino.

‘On top four, Liverpool can miss out because they don’t have Sadio Mane anymore and Luis Diaz does not have the same impact.

‘Liverpool always concede goals too, like we saw against Fulham. Even if I like how Liverpool play, I think it will be City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.’
