Liverpool transfer confirmed as winger pens contract; second signing being planned

Liverpool have completed the signing of Scotland youth prospect Ben Doak from Celtic and are reportedly hoping to sign an Aberdeen starlet too.

Liverpool first set their sights on Doak in March. Rival interest from Leeds United soon emerged, but Jurgen Klopp was essential in putting Liverpool into pole position for the right winger.

According to The Athletic, Doak chose to speak with Liverpool over Leeds due to Klopp’s history with giving young players a chance. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are good examples.

16-year-old Doak was then pictured holding a Liverpool shirt, leading to rumours that the transfer was complete.

However, the deal had yet to be signed off by both clubs. Liverpool soon agreed to pay £600,000 compensation for Doak, as the Scotland U17 international hadn’t signed a professional contract with Celtic.

The player has now confirmed his move to Anfield. On Thursday afternoon, he posted a picture of himself signing the Liverpool contract on Instagram. It came with the following caption: ‘Looking forward to a new chapter’.

Liverpool haven’t announced the transfer just yet, although that will surely come in the next few weeks.

Club scouts are already lining up another capture, too. According to the Liverpool Echo, they hold an interest in Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay.

The 18-year-old represents Scotland U21 on the international stage and has made three appearances for them so far.

He has also featured 31 times for Aberdeen’s first team this campaign, despite his tender age.

Liverpool officials clearly see Ramsay as a potential Premier League star and are readying an offer for him.
