Liverpool suffer late Manchester United anguish as former striker strikes twice
Liverpool conceded twice in the final 10 minutes as they were held to a draw in a remarkable 10-goal thriller with Manchester United in U18 Premier League North.
The Reds were three goals up at one point before they were ultimately pegged back to a 5-5 draw at the Academy in Kirkby on Saturday.
Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side are now seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, who beat Everton 1-0.
Lee Jonas gave Liverpool the lead on 14 minutes when heading in Luca Stephenson's free kick before a fine individual effort from Harvey Blair doubled the lead on 33 minutes.
Former Reds forward Ethan Ennis pulled a goal back in first-half injury-time, but the Reds restored their two-goal advantage six minutes into the second half when Bobby Clark converted a low cross from Blair.
Oakley Cannonier made it 4-1 on 63 minutes but two goals in as many minutes from Willy Kambwala and Joe Hugill dragged United back into the match.
Clark's second 14 minutes from time appeared to have settled the match, only for Ennis to grab a second on 81 minutes before Hugill followed suit with one minute of normal time remaining.
Liverpool are next in action on Tuesday when they travel to Juventus for their UEFA Youth League quarter-final (kick-off 3pm).
