Liverpool strike ‘agreement’ to give Klopp exciting new weapon; common ground found on cost

Liverpool have struck an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Fulham ace Fabio Carvalho this summer, and the two clubs are both keen to avoid a tribunal, per a report.

The Reds came close to signing the Portuguese-born attacker in January. Fabio Carvalho completed a medical and an £8m transfer fee was agreed. The deal’s terms would’ve seen the 19-year-old return to Fulham on loan for the remainder of the season.

However, time ran out before the finishing touches could be applied. That meant Carvalho remained on Fulham’s books for the final six months of his contract. It also left Liverpool vulnerable to the deal being hijacked.

Man Utd, Chelsea and Real Madrid were all linked with snatching Carvalho from Liverpool’s grasp.

However, Jurgen Klopp insisted it made no sense for Liverpool to abandon their pursuit at the first sign of trouble.

It always appeared likely they would reignite their interest, and per Football Insider, that’s exactly what they’ve done.

The online outlet claim Liverpool have ‘recommenced negotiations’. They have apparently quickly struck an ‘agreement in principle’ for Carvalho to move in the summer.

Personal terms are also agreed and a deal is now reportedly ‘in place’ to bring Carvalho to Anfield when his Fulham deal expires at the end of June.

Given Carvalho’s age, a free agent pick-up of that type would normally result in a tribunal determining what level of compensation Fulham are due.

Indeed, Liverpool’s deals for Harvey Elliott (also from Fulham), Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke in recent years all went to a tribunal.

However, the article adds that both Liverpool and Fulham are keen to avoid that process. Instead, if Fulham are willing to accept a Liverpool fee, a tribunal will not be required.
