Liverpool star in ‘race against time’ to be fit for crucial City clash

It will be touch and go whether Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit for their crunch clash against Manchester City, according to reports.

The England international has been in great form once again this season with the a chance the Reds could still win four trophies this season.

Liverpool wrapped up their Carabao Cup triumph last month, while they are through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The possibility of glory in the Premier League looked to be slipping away a month or so ago but Jurgen Klopp’s side have dragged themselves to within a point of leaders Man City.

Gossip: Updates on three Liverpool winger targets

Alexander-Arnold’s contribution of two goals and 15 assists has helped drive Liverpool up the table and it was a blow when he sustained a hamstring injury in their victory over Arsenal before the international break.

He missed their FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest ten days ago and The Athletic expect him to sit out their first game back after the international break against Watford and their Champions League fixture a few days later versus Benfica.

Their match against City will follow on April 10 and The Athletic adds that Alexander-Arnold is facing ‘a race against time to be fit’ for that fixture.

It is ‘viewed as a possible comeback date for the 23-year-old’  but that the match against City ‘would still represent a quick return to action given the nature of the problem’.

It is understood that the Liverpool right-back ‘has some important hurdles to clear in the coming week before he is given the green light to resume full training at Kirkby’.
