Liverpool: Peter Crouch had everyone laughing with answer to UCL question

Peter Crouch had his fellow BT Sport pundits in stitches during Wednesday night’s coverage for the Champions League semi-final first leg clash between Liverpool and Villarreal at Anfield.

The ex-striker, who is one of the most universally-loved footballers-turned-pundits, was asked by host Jake Humphrey if he knew which Liverpool player scored the last Champions League semi-final goal at Anfield.

Crouch paused, had a think, and then replied: “Is it me, yeah?”

Humphrey, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen all fell about laughing at Crouch’s incorrect answer.

The former England international was caught out by a similar question in April 2021 when he was asked to name the English players that scored in both legs of a Champions League quarter-final.

Crouch was one of the answers on that occasion, although the big man had no idea!

With that incident presumably in the back of his mind, Crouch must have thought Humphrey was tricking him once again and decided to name himself, totally forgetting about Liverpool’s extraordinary 4-0 victory over Barcelona in the 2018-19 Champions league semi-finals.

The answer was, of course, Divock Origi.

“I forgot I played 15 years ago!” Crouch said.
