Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been blamed for his part in Inter Milan's goal on Tuesday night.

The Reds booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals despite losing 1-0 at Anfield, as Inter striker Lautaro Martinez hit a stunning goal to help his side run out winners on the night.

But the goal was not enough to see Inter through following their 2-0 defeat at the San Siro.

Inter's comeback in the tie was made more challenging just minutes after the goal as Alexis Sanchez was sent off for a second yellow card – and Thierry Henry was not impressed at the decision.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has clearly learnt from Brendan Rodgers' mistake in the Anfield hot-seat that cost Liverpool millions.

Rio Ferdinand was less than complimentary about Virgil van Dijk's role in Inter Milan's goal at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Lautaro Martinez was able to turn and run at the Liverpool backline before hitting a swerving 20-yard effort in the 61st minute that flew into the top-right corner of Alisson's goal to stun Anfield.

And Ferdinand has pointed the finger at fellow centre-back Van Dijk for allowing the goal to happen.
