Liverpool have made a transfer U-turn after deciding to keep hold of Joe Gomez.
The defender has been linked with a summer move to join Anfield legend Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa, but newly-appointed sporting director Julian Ward would like to keep hold of him. That has kicked off negotiations for a new contract in order to tie Gomez down to a new long-term deal.
It comes as Roberto Firmino's potential departure could pose something of a tactical problem for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. And Liverpool's shirt numbers for the forthcoming season have been confirmed – with Harvey Elliott and Ben Davies set to wear new numbers.
