Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hits back at Erling Haaland criticism

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit back at critics of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland after he said it is "crazy" how quickly players are judged in the Premier League.

Haaland has made a fine start to his career at City. The Norwegian scored two goals against West Ham on his debut for the club and then followed that up with an assist against Bournemouth at the Etihad for Pep Guardiola's side.

Ahead of the striker making his first appearance for the Blues, there were questions over whether he could make the transition from the Bundesliga to the Premier League. The speed and intensity of English football was touted as something that could prove to be too big of a challenge for the former Borussia Dortmund player.

When Haaland failed to score in the Community Shield against Liverpool, these questions were being asked by rival fans who were quick to slate the striker. This knee-jerk reaction from fans is something that Liverpool's manager thinks is becoming far too commonplace in today's game.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp discussed the pressure that players are under to succeed straight away.

He said: "It's crazy how quick we judge people… wow! Imagine if somebody did that to us and said, 'First day of work, it didn't work out. Go home, we never want to see you again! And you don't get a second chance by the way' - we would have all been long gone! No chance.

"You can't say, 'Come on, you have to give me 100 per cent immediately' - you have to develop it and that's what we're doing at the moment and in a good way.
