As depressing as it is, there is usually a correlation between how much a football club spends and how successful they are.

Generally, the more you spend the more chance you have of winning trophies.

Of course, that isn’t always the case if a club makes expensive mistakes in the transfer market or an underdog manages to upset to odds with a limited budget.

But with finances so important, clubs have turned to super-rich owners to help fund their activities.

However, some owners have more money than others – and some are far more willing to spend it on their football club than others.

But how much do owners give certain major European clubs?

Well, the ever-brilliant Swiss Ramble has revealed all in another study on the business model of football clubs.

The Swiss Ramble focused on some of Europe’s biggest clubs and how much their owner has funded in the last 10 years.

The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Tottenham have all received zero investment from their owners.

At the other end of the spectrum, Inter Milan lead the way with almost €1 billion from their Suning Holdings Group owners.

Their Milan rivals aren’t far behind, being backed by Elliott Investment Management.

While it may be a bit of a surprise to see the two Milan clubs at the top, it’s unsurprising to see Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain make up the top five.

It’s damning that Everton are in sixth despite struggling against relegation last season.

Leicester, Arsenal and Wolves are the other Premier League clubs included with Liverpool a way down the list with just €124 million of investment from their owners in the last 10 years.
