Liverpool FC great claims he's 'worried' about Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Liverpool hero Ian Rush has told Erik ten Hag that he has got “an awful lot of work to do” when he arrives at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman was announced as the club’s new boss on Thursday, two days after United were thumped 4-0 by Liverpool. The team were slaughtered for their display on the night, which saw them retain just 28 per cent of possession and direct just one shot on target.

Many have called for an overhaul of the club this summer with United outside contenders for a Champions League spot. Rush agrees that Ten Hag has a mighty task on his hands to turn the club into title contenders once again.

Speaking to Gambling.com, he said: “Liverpool fans have every right to revel in their team’s total dominance over United this season but I was disappointed by the lack of fight shown by the visitors at Anfield on Tuesday. When I think of this fixture I reminisce of all the battles I had with United sides throughout the 1980s and 1990s, when both clubs enjoyed respective stints of success.

“So to watch United take a beating without putting up a fight for the second time this season was pretty underwhelming for what should be one of the marquee fixtures in the calendar.” He added: “As good as Liverpool were, when there’s no fight in the opponent it sucks the fun out of the spectacle.

"Scoring nine without reply over the two league matches is a true measure of where both clubs are at and if I was a United fan I’d be very worried. When Erik ten Hag comes in this summer, he’s got an awful lot of work to do.”
