Liverpool FC duo agree on final day game plan to take Premier League title off Man City

Liverpool will hope to learn lessons from the final day in 2019 when they were pipped to the Premier League title by leaders Manchester City.

The two sides have set up another final-day showdown this season, with City one point ahead with one game remaining, just like in 2019. That day, with Liverpool beating Wolves 2-0, City fell behind at Brighton - temporarily putting Liverpool top - before winning 4-1 and sealing the title.

This season, Liverpool again host Wolves, while City are at home to Aston Villa, and Jordan Henderson hopes that his side can use the experience of three years ago to their advantage - while banking on a favour from Villa.

"It’s hard. We have had this before when they played Brighton away and they went one goal up," Henderson told Sky Sports after Liverpool's win at Southampton sent the title race to the last day.

"The crowd cheer and you sort of know what is going on, it’s hard to concentrate on the game and hopefully, we have that experience, we can learn from it and concentrate on what we need to do. And hopefully Stevie [Gerrard] and Aston Villa can do us a favour.

"It is always tough, City never seem to drop points, they are a fantastic team."

Henderson added to the BBC: "We really kicked on from January and gave it everything. In January, if you said it would go to the last game we'd have taken that. We were quite far off. You have to give credit to the lads."

Experienced teammate James Milner echoed his captain's thoughts, saying Liverpool can only focus on themselves on the final day - as they cannot impact the City result.
