Liverpool fans react to Newcastle players walking off the pitch after dramatic win

Liverpool beat Newcastle at Anfield on Wednesday in the most dramatic circumstances.

Eddie Howe’s side had taken the lead when debutant Alexander Isak put them ahead in the 38th minute.

The away side thought they had doubled their lead when Isak appeared to score his second of the match. The Swede seemed to break Liverpool’s offside trap, kept his cool to cut inside Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk before firing the ball past Alisson.

It was a sensational goal but the assistant referee put up his flag for offside to deny Newcastle and Isak’s second.

Shortly afterwards, Liverpool were level through Roberto Firmino after Mohamed Salah’s pullback.

With half an hour remaining, there only looked to be one winner.

And Newcastle knew it.

They had been keen to slow things down the entire match and they took it to new levels after Liverpool had equalised with multiple players often going down with injuries. It really angered the Liverpool crowd, players and coaching staff.

It led to referee Andre Marriner adding on five additional minutes at the end of the second half.

However, the majority of those five minutes were spent with Nick Pope down injured. It meant play continued well beyond those five minutes. And during that time added on in added on time, Liverpool forced an unlikely winner through Fabio Carvalho who stuck home from a scrambled corner.
