Liverpool fan Paddy Pimblett makes surprise admission about Goodison Park

UFC star Paddy Pimblett has said he wouldn’t mind fighting at Goodison Park as ‘the Echo Arena is far too small’.

The Liverpool fan returns to the octagon on Saturday night against Rodrigo Vargas at the O2 Arena in London.

Ahead of the fight Pimblett spoke of his desire to headline a show one day at Anfield, having grown up a stone’s throw away from the world-famous stadium in Merseyside.

However, he also refused to rule out fighting at the home of their arch rivals Everton, despite being a lifelong Red himself.

Asked if he will be a part of the main event when the UFC returns to Liverpool, Pimblett replied: “I’m guessing so, I’m guessing I would be.

“No, they haven’t spoken to us about anything like that.

“The only thing about Liverpool is the only venue apart from the stadium is the Echo Arena, and I was selling that out on my own off my own back with just the Cage Warriors name attached to it, never mind the UFC name.

“So the Echo Arena is far too small now, the O2 Arena is too small when I’m on the card, I said this months ago.

“You need a bigger stadium with me on it. West Ham’s ground or Tottenham’s ground or something like that. Anfield or Goodison.

“I wouldn’t even mind fighting at Goodison, good ol’ Woodison, do you know what I mean? I wouldn’t mind fighting there.”

Pimblett – aka ‘Paddy the Baddy’ – currently trains at Next Generation MMA on Kempton Street under coach Paul Reed.

Unlike Pimblett, his teammate and close friend Molly McCann is an avid Everton fan.

Despite this, the pair have forged an inseparable bond over the years, and are often mistaken for siblings.

“It’d be a dream come true for Molly, but I know for a fact over the next three, four or five years, Anfield is happening,” he admitted.
