Live updates as M4 closed with police at 'serious incident'
A section of the M4 is closed both ways due to a vehicle fire which police have called a “serious incident”. The fire has broken out on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway in Swansea between junction 47 and junction 46.
Police say they expect the road to be closed “for some time” with officers currently at the scene. Delays are expected in the area which could be further affected by bank holiday traffic and adverse weather conditions.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We are at the scene of a serious incident on the M4 junction 47 to 46 eastbound Penllergaer, Swansea. The road is currently closed eastbound. It is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area." However Traffic Wales said in a post on X that the carriageway was "closed in both directions" with "police and traffic officers at scene".
