Live updates as fire in fish and chip shop in Merthyr Tydfil sends plumes of smoke over town

A fire at a fish and chip shop in Merthyr Tydfil has caused plumes of smoke over the town. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at Frydays fish shop on Clover Road, Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil.

A spokesperson for the force said: "At approximately 11:35am on Tuesday 29 August 2023, we received reports of a commercial fire on Clover Road in Merthyr Tydfil. Crews from Merthyr Tydfil and Hirwaun Fire Stations are currently in attendance. This incident is ongoing."

Photos from the scene show several fire officers and vehicles in attendance with plumes of smoke rising from the building.There is also a police presence at the scene.
