LIVE: Traffic held and severe delays on M66 as emergency services respond to crash

Emergency services are responding to an crash on the M66 northbound near Oldham this morning which is causing heavy queues and stationary traffic.

Two lanes were closed on the M66 Northbound at J3 Pilsworth Road, for Hollins shortly after 8.30am this morning (February 9).

Traffic data monitors INRIX reports that all traffic is now being held due to the crash.

There is currently congestion up to J4 for Simister Island.

Highways North West tweeted to confirm there had been a road traffic collision.

The tweet said: "We are currently dealing with RTC's with lane closures at the following locations: A5300 SB lane 1 closed due to 2 veh RTC. M66 NB just prior to J3 exit, lane 1 closed Princess Parkway NB lane blocked."

Highways England reports that normal traffic conditions are not expected until between 10:30 and 10:45am.

It's advised to avoid the area and make alternative routes if you can.

Traffic monitoring platform INRIX reports that three vehicles were involved in the crash on the M66 this morning.

One lane remains closed, with queuing traffic and congestion to J4 (M60 / M62 Simister Island).

The queues are now affecting the M60 in both directions on approach. Traffic is also slowing to look on the opposite side of the M66 with delays from J1 (Ramsbottom).
