LIVE: Sir Graham Brady expected to announce no confidence vote in Boris Johnson - latest updates

Sir Graham Brady is expected to make a statement later today announcing there will be a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson.

Paul Brand, UK editor at ITV News, has reported that Conservative rebels are expecting the statement from the Altrincham and Sale West MP and 1922 Committee chairman 'imminently'. The move comes following the Prime Minister's handling of the so-called partygate scandal.

In a tweet, the ITV reporter said: "BREAKING: Tory rebels expect Sir Graham Brady to make a statement this morning announcing that there will be a vote of no confidence in Boris Johnson. Only Brady knows the exact details, but this is as certain as anyone has sounded that a vote is on.

"If the format follows previous occasions then Sir Graham Brady will make a short statement to the cameras. A secret ballot of Tory MPs would then follow within days. It’s only happening when Sir Graham Brady says so, but like I say this is sounding pretty imminent."

Lucy Fisher, Chief Political Commentator at Times Radio, suggests the announcement will be made at around 8am. The reporter tweeted: "BREAKING: A confidence vote in Boris Johnson is set to be announced this morning, I understand. Sir Graham Brady is expected to make a statement to camera around 8am confirming that the threshold of 54 letters has been met, I'm told."

As chairman of the Conservatives' 1922 Committee, only Senior MP Brady knows which MP have sent in a letter confirming their vote of no confidence. Rules of the political party state that at least 15% of Tory MPs must write a no-confidence letter in order to make a leadership challenge possible.
