LIVE Search teams recover body from River Irwell after city street cordoned off
A body has been discovered after emergency services were called to an incident in the River Irwell overnight, the MEN understands.
Greater Manchester Police said emergency services responded to reports of a person 'entering the water' near to the Lowry Hotel on Salford's border with Manchester.
The alert was raised at around midnight, with images taken of the scene showing a huge emergency services response.
It's believed to be a woman, but no further details have been revealed.
Police and ambulances were pictured on Blackfriars Road as the reports came in.
A police scene remained in place on Thursday morning.
