LIVE: Prisoner on the run after being treated at Salford Royal Hospital - updates

A prisoner is on the run after escaping following treatment at Salford Royal Hospital, the Manchester Evening News has been informed.

The offender, who was jailed at Forest Bank, absconded after receiving treatment at the hospital on Stott Lane on Monday (October 7).

A police helicopter has been circling the area, near to the De La Salle playing fields, with officers also seen in attendance along nearby Lancaster Road and Wilton Road carrying out enquiries.

Further details about the prisoner and his offences have not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. The force has been contacted for a statement.

Police officers have been conducting enquiries and knocking on doors in the vicinity of Salford Royal Hospital this afternoon and evening.

A number of police vehicles have been parked on Wilton Road, behind the hospital site, with uniformed officers speaking to local residents.

One resident has said officers were asking locals if they had any doorbell or CCTV footage as part of ongoing enquiries.

A police helicopter has also been circling the area, near to the De La Salle playing fields, as officers were seen along nearby Lancaster Road and Wilton Road. Officers have also been conducting searches near Sale Water Park.

Police have urged members of the public not to approach missing prisoner Jonathan Windsor.

The 31-year-old 'escaped lawful custody' after he was being escorted by prison officers following treatment at Salford Royal Hospital.

The public have been urged by GMP not to approach him and report any sightings immediately. He is known to have links across the north west and south Manchester.
