LIVE: Northern Lights seen in Wales, Ireland and as far south in England as Cornwall

The Northern Lights have been seen across Wales, Ireland and Englad on Sunday night, with reports of the the phenomom being spotted across England and as far south as Sussex, Wiltshire and even Cornwall.

It comes after The Met Office said the Aurora Borealis - caused by electrically charged particles from space entering the Earth's upper atmosphere at a very high speed- could appear over England tonight (Sunday, February 26) and tomorrow (Monday).

Normally, only Scotland and parts of northern England are treated to glimpses of the Aurora Borealis on the rare occasion they can be seen in the UK.

In a tweet shared just before 6.30pm, the Met Office said: "The Aurora Borealis may be visible as far south as central England tonight where skies remain clear. The Northern Lights are also likely to be seen again on Monday night."

Since then people have been sharing their photos on Twitter, with sightings of the magical lights from as far south as Cornwall in England and Dublin in Ireland.

The Met Office later confirmed there had been sigtings across the UK. In a tweet shrtly before midnight, the weather forcaster said: "A coronal hole high speed stream arrived this evening combined with a rather fast coronal mass ejection leading to Aurora sightings across the UK."
