LIVE: Manchester city centre properties left without electricity after power cut

Thousands of people have experienced a power cut in Manchester city centre this evening.

Electricity North West initially reported around 1,900 properties and businesses had been affected in the Deansgate area of the city. The incident, first reported at around 8pm, is being assessed by Electricity North West officials - with electricity now restored to all but 12 properties according to the company's website.

Councillor and city centre spokesperson Pat Karney said the 'lights had gone out' in the Deansgate area, and around Watson Street and Peter Street.

The issue is being investigated, with the power currently expected to be restored to all homes by around 11.15pm. We will bring you the latest updates in the live blog below.

Power has now been restored to most properties in the Deansgate area, according to an update from Electricity North West.

Currently, around 12 properties remain affected.

An update read: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business."
