Live: M61 slip road in Bolton closed after crash with miles of queues - updates

A motorway entry slip road has been closed after a crash. The collision happened on Watergate Lane, Bolton, just before 4pm today.

As a result, the junction four entry slip road for the southbound carriageway has been closed. Emergency services have also been scrambled to the scene.

Photographs seen by the Manchester Evening News show an overturned van at the entrance to the slip road.

There is congestion to Little Hulton, according to traffic monitoring website Inrix. Traffic is also queuing almost as far back as the Royal Bolton Hospital.

An update on Inrix reads: "M61 Southbound entry slip road closed, queueing traffic due to accident at J4 A6 Watergate Lane (Farnworth). Congestion to Little Hulton on the A6.

"There are also queues back to the Royal Bolton Hospital. The entry slip was closed at 16:20."

According to Traffic England, the road closure is expected to be lifted between 8 and 8.15pm.

Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) for further information.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they did not attend.
