LIVE: Long queues following M56 crash as Met Office issues warning for Greater Manchester - latest updates

Drivers are being urged to take care after the Met Office issued a warning for Greater Manchester. Disruption is expected on roads across the region, with a yellow weather warning for strong winds in force today (April 15).

It comes as rush hour queues are building on motorways in Greater Manchester, including the M56 and M60. There is currently congestion on the M56 westbound following a crash near Manchester Airport.

One lane is closed between junctions four and five. Traffic is backing up to junction one of the M60 at the Stockport Pyramid, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.

National Highways says the hard shoulder is also closed between junctions four and five of the M56. The incident is expected to clear after 9am.

The Met Office weather warning is in force until 10pm tonight. Wind gusts of up to 42 mph are expected across Greater Manchester today.
