LIVE: Large oil spill on M56 following multiple car crash

Two lanes on the M56 have been closed after a crash involving two lorries caused a large oil spill.

Fire crews and air ambulance were called to the motorway after one person was trapped and handed to paramedics.

The crash occurred between J10 A49 Tarporley Road (Stretton) and J9 M6 J20 ( Lymm Interchange) just after 9am.

Motorists have been advised to allow extra time for their journey with delays expected in the area with emergency services currently on the scene.

A statement from Cheshire Fire and Rescue reads: "A road traffic collision involving two heavy goods vehicles on the M56, with one person trapped, saw firefighters attend.

"One arrival the person was out of the vehicle and was handed to the care of paramedics. Lanes one and two were closed while the incident was dealt with. An air ambulance also attended."

National Highways North West tweeted: "Lanes 1 and 2 of (3) are closed on the #M56 east between J10 and J9 near #Warrington, following a multiple vehicle collision and a large oil spillage. #TrafficOfficers and emergency services are working at the scene. Please allow extra time for your journey as delays are building"

Traffic monitoring software Inrix says: "M56 Eastbound entry slip road closed two lanes closed, slow traffic due to accident, two cars and a lorry involved and oil spillage from J10 A49 Tarporley Road (Stretton) to J9 M6 J20 ( Lymm Interchange). The eastbound entry slip road is closed. There are two (of three) lanes closed."
