LIVE: Lane closed on M60 after car breaks down and traffic builds - latest updates

Congestion is building on the clockwise section of the M60 after a broken down lorry caused one lane to be closed this morning.

One lane is closed between Junction 20 for Higher Blackley and Junction 21 for Hollinwood on the outer ring road. Authorities expect the lane to reopen by 8:15am this morning (March 29).

An update from Inrix at 7:24am, a traffic monitoring service, said: "M60 - GREATER MANCHESTER - CLOCKWISE

"One lane closed and slow traffic due to broken down lorry on M60 clockwise from J20 A664 Manchester New Road (Higher Blackley ) to J21 A6104 (Hollinwood)."

This is a developing story, please stay tuned for more updates.

It's worth saying that the anti-clockwise side of the motorway is unaffected by this incident.

Anti-clockwise, the M60 is freely-moving - except for a section between J18 (Simister Island) and J12 (Eccles Interchange).

That six-junction stretch to the north of the city is not looking good at all, though. It could well be worth delaying your journey if you can.

Some sections of the affected area are no longer moving, the updated map from National Highways shows.

The map posted a few moments ago from National Highways has just refreshed, and it's not good news, unfortunately.

Non-moving traffic is continuing to back up towards junction 19, having already passed J20.

We'll have an updated map for you shortly.

National Highways now says the incident will clear between 8:15 and 8:30am this morning, having previously advised it would be resolved by the quarter-hour mark.

Its alert said: "The event is expected to clear between 08:15 and 08:30 on 29 March 2022.

"Normal traffic conditions are expected between 08:15 and 08:30 on 29 March 2022."

The latest map from National Highways shows that traffic
