LIVE: Huge police cordon in place as officers 'search bushes'

A street in south Manchester has been cordoned off with a large police presence on the scene this morning.

Officers have swooped on Altrincham Road and Pepper Close in Wythenshawe on Tuesday morning (January 21). Witnesses report seeing tactical aid officers 'searching bushes and under cars' .

Pictures show a heavy police presence near the Sharston Roundabout, with police using sticks to search the area.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11.10pm last night (20 January 2025), officers responded to reports of a vehicle colliding into a bollard on Brownley Road, Manchester.

"A man and a women were subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, with the male additionally arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample. The pair were also treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening or changing.

"Officers are currently on the scene to search for reported suspicious items."
